A HOST’S GUIDE
Baby shower bingo: less prep, clearer rules.
Start by choosing how the group will play. Gift bingo follows presents being opened; caller-led bingo works without gifts. Both use a ready-filled card for each guest.
Build your free guest-count pack →Example: preparing for 20 guests
For 20 guests using two cards per sheet, print 10 participant sheets. Add one host guide. Caller-led mode also needs a checklist plus a second copy to cut into slips. Gift-opening mode has no caller pages. The pack summary counts the actual pages in your selected PDF. For the 40-minute two-round caller plan, also prepare two pen colors: 20 pens in each color.
The complete download uses your current editor batch, rather than a fixed six-card sample. Keep its participant section together and set the host section aside. One card per page gives a larger writing area; two per page uses fewer sheets. Preview your words and print a test sheet before making the whole batch.
Choose the right game
A caller-led word game
- The caller pages follow the participant cards. Keep the checklist and cut one copy into slips; shuffle them in a bowl.
- Draw one slip at a time, read it aloud and mark the checklist. Players mark the word only if it is on their card.
- At the agreed time, stop even if there is no bingo. Use most marked squares as a fallback if announced before play; ties are shared.
Alongside gift opening
- Use this mode only if gifts will be opened at the event. Review the list for likely physical gifts before printing.
- Agree what each category includes before starting, especially blanket/swaddle and toy/rattle. Count an opened gift once per matching square; duplicates do not create new marks.
- Hand out prefilled cards before gifts. Guests mark a listed item when it is opened. No caller or calling slips are needed.
- Gift opening has no fixed game length. If no line is completed, compare marked squares at the end only if that fallback was announced.
Rules everyone should hear
- Make participation optional. Offer a seat and read entries aloud when helpful.
- Announce the winning rule before play: one full row, column or diagonal. If Free Space is on, it is already marked.
- Keep a record of called words or opened gifts. Check each claimed winning line against that record.
- Different arrangements can win together. Share the win or use an agreed tie rule. Do not promise a single winner.
Suggested caller schedules
20-minute caller session
| Time | Host action |
|---|---|
| 0-3 min | Hand out cards and explain the winning pattern and tie rule. |
| 3-16 min | Draw baby-word slips at a comfortable pace. Pause to repeat or clarify. |
| 16-20 min | Check claimed lines, apply the announced fallback if needed, and wrap up. |
40-minute caller session
| Time | Host action |
|---|---|
| 0-5 min | Welcome guests, hand out cards and explain the rules. |
| 5-18 min | Run the first caller-led round and check any wins. |
| 18-22 min | Pause. For a second round, use a different pen color to distinguish new marks. |
| 22-35 min | Return every slip to the bowl, shuffle, and start the second round. |
| 35-40 min | Check lines, apply any announced fallback and thank guests. |
These are adjustable host plans, not tested game-duration promises. Grid size, word pool, reading pace and pauses affect timing. For round two, only the new pen color counts; use a new card if that is unclear.
Print and preparation checklist
- Confirm the guest count and game mode with the host.
- Review every entry; remove anything that will not fit the event.
- Print one test sheet at 100% / Actual size before the full batch.
- Print participant cards single-sided; cut between cards for two-per-page layouts.
- Keep host-only pages separate. Place one pen beside each participant card.
- Choose a tie rule, fallback and any optional prizes before play.
There is no puzzle answer sheet in this pack. The caller checks a winning line against the called-word checklist; in gift mode, the host checks it against the gifts actually opened. Original suggested plans have not yet been tried with a live group.
Why the pack separates the materials
Published hosting guidance and a host discussion highlight card quantities, pens, filling time and deciding what counts as a match. These sources inform the preparation flow; their printables and wording are not reproduced.
